It wasn't long before Ruben became renown within the industry for his quality work, and fast became high in demand for repairing and setting up all other branded guitars such as Fender, Gibson, Martin and Taylor resulting in the start of “Guitarman Repairs” in 2011.
It only took two years, but a continual increase in demand for his repair and setup work, coupled with multiple custom guitar orders saw Ruben exit his role at Maton in 2013 to focus on the growth of his business.
Rapid growth has seen operations expand to two locations - our original workshop in Rowville and our new factory and showroom on Burwood Hwy in Ferntree Gully. Ruben and his team are now sharing their time between building 35 bespoke guitars a year and still continuing to provide quality and reliable guitar repairs to Melbourne's Northern and South Eastern suburbs.
2010 presented the rare opportunity to be mentored and work alongside veteran luthier and repair guru Chris Ffinch. Absorbing Chris’ 40 years of experience, knowledge and tricks-of-the-trade, Ruben fast became well groomed to take over the Maton repair shop following Chris’ retirement.
Working as head-repairer for Maton Guitars for several years allowed Ruben to hone his skills to setup and repair guitars for even the most discerning guitarists such as Tommy Emmanuel, and professionals alike (Justin Derrico (Pink), Glenn Proudfoot, Jeff Martin (The Tea Party), Ian Moss, Powderfinger, The Seekers, John Butler, Paul Kelly, Brett Wood (Pete Murray), The Screaming Jets, Mark Seymour…..).
